What is Pyoderma Gangrenosum?
Pyoderma gangrenosum (PG) is a rare skin condition that causes painful ulcers on the skin. These ulcers can start as small bumps or pustules and quickly develop into open sores. The exact cause of PG is unknown, but it is thought to be related to an overactive immune system.
Who is at risk for Pyoderma Gangrenosum?
People with certain health conditions, like inflammatory bowel disease or rheumatoid arthritis, are at a higher risk of getting PG. Additionally, skin trauma or surgery can sometimes trigger the condition.
